27. Quiet Power

John Piper says, "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him."

My dear wife is catching the fire. Recently, McDonald’s became a place of refuge for a young woman who was working on her computer, with her precious baby slouched over the arm of the chair sleeping. Judy was concerned for her when she saw her at breakfast. Later, we went in for a Coke. The young lady was still there. Now the baby was sleeping on her lap. It was gripping to watch.

We were a couple tables behind her. I asked Judy if she wanted to do something. She said, “Yes”. I said I have a Chick-fil-A card and money in the car. I asked her, “What do you want to do?” She said, “Get the card.” Judy went over and knelt down, and said, “I want you to have this card, and I want you to know what a good Mommy you are.” Then, we headed down the road. Dead silence. I said, “Babe, do you want to go back and give her some money?” She said, “Yes!” This time Judy said, “I want to give you this. Can I give you a hug?” The woman said, “Yes.” Judy said, “This is about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!” It was pretty moving for me to watch those two.

Don’t discount the power of a highly sensitive, shy, little woman when she feels compelled by the Holy Spirit! I won’t soon forget this!

“I discovered an astonishing truth: God is attracted to weakness. He can’t resist those who humbly and honestly admit how desperately they need him. Our weakness, in fact, makes room for his power.” Jim Cymbala

Psalms 34:18 NIV: The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
