19. Giving out $Millions at a church garage sale

Matthew 18:2-5 NIV “He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”

The older woman in a church had our tracts at the church garage sale.  Well, they got the kids involved. What a cute picture …. All those little people handing out tracts. So many Christians never even give out one tract in a lifetime.

A week or so I preached about evangelism at the church where the garage sale had been held earlier. I said, “I don’t want to embarrass you adults, but many of your children have already handed out a tract. I made sure everyone got one that day at church—I said, “Give that tract to the person next you. Now you have broken the ice. Amen.”

Why tracts? 1) People can’t argue with a tract. 2) People throw it in the car or on the counter at home—it is a little sermon every time they look at it. 3) Even the shape and color can remind the person what it is about. 4) Very often they share it with other people in their lives. 5) Many go back and read it when they face trouble in their lives. 6) The Word of God does not come back void. I’ve witnessed those Living Waters $1,000,000 bills get passed around. If you give one downtown or at a Colts game, you will see people handing it down the line. It is like a little note from God. People read it and the Spirit enters the picture. I know many of you think it is corny. Once you hear what Jesus did for you on the Cross, the Spirit is in it, you just can’t easily dismiss it from your mind.
