2. A Journey of Faithful Obedience

“Follow Me.” These two words from Jesus have resonated through the events of history, becoming an invitation, a challenge, and a guiding principle for believers. My own experience with this command has been transformational, as I have found myself being nudged towards unfamiliar territories and unpredictable interactions.

Recently, I had an encounter at a local sandwich shop. The intimidating demeanor of one of the staff members, covered in piercings and emanating an aura of "don't mess with me", initially held me back. However, an inner conviction prompted me to approach him and share the Gospel, even if it was just through a “Million Dollar bill” tract. To my surprise, he responded positively, distributing it to his colleagues and reading its message. As I left, I felt a profound affirmation in my spirit: “Phil, just ‘Follow Me!’”

This divine directive simplifies the vast complexities of life. When Jesus said, “Follow Me,” He wasn’t inviting us for a casual stroll, but to a life of purpose, commitment, and divine guidance.

While pondering over the frequency of this command in the Gospels, I discovered that Jesus used this phrase 13 times. Each instance wasn’t just an invitation for companionship; it was a call for alignment, purpose, and divine destiny.

Another testament to this call unfolded closer to home. A family, surrounded by the frequent presence of the police, recently moved into our neighborhood. While my initial instinct was to wish them away, I felt a counterintuitive push to engage. Though our first scheduled interaction didn’t materialize, it dawned upon me that God values my willingness to obey more than the actual outcomes.

Life's challenges often tug us in different directions, but the hymn, "Trust and Obey", captures the essence of a believer’s journey: total reliance on God and faithful obedience. Proverbs 3:5-6 and Matthew 16:24-26 serve as stark reminders that in our pursuit of God's heart, surrendering and following His lead yields the truest form of fulfillment.

In this world where allegiances shift and devotions waver, a significant question arises: What are you devoted to? Because in the end, everyone is worshipping something
